Declaration of Aspirations for both parties

Key features about Collaborative Law

Very importantly, prior to the very first four way meeting, both parties consider their “Declaration of Aspirations”

This is a very important task for the clients.

This is a statement the parties make, explaining why they have chosen Collaborative Divorce Law and each party’s Declaration is read out in the First 4-way meeting.

This provides the touchstone for the whole process. Most moving Declarations of Aspirations evolve, providing an anchor on to which the parties can hold when matters become tumultuous and difficult in meetings. An example of the type of Declaration is as follows:

“I have chosen the Collaborative Law process because I want to find a solution that is fair for me, my husband, and children, and which enables my husband and myself to remain friends and communicate in the future for the benefit of ourselves and our children.”

This fundamental touchstone is referred to at later meetings if it appears that the parties are sliding into the litigious and positional based approach rather than trying to achieve the best for the whole family.
